Shop & Chat: 2 way radios in Retail

For us, the shoppers, purchasing can be a fun-filled trip into town on a pleasant sun-dappled afternoon, complete with good friends, interesting conversation and tasty treats.

However, a shop is generally a good deal above a delightful Saturday afternoon’s disruption for the individuals who run it. The average high street shop is, in truth, a tightly run mixture of intelligent marketing, well-planned shop layouts and hard working staff, all of which come in sync to produce a state of the art consumer setting. Walkie talkies are a great part of that operation.

How? Well, there’s health and safety to consider first and foremost. Customers need to be protected, with quick medical attention given should any problem befall them.

Then, there is security of course. Allegedly, in ’09 alone, over 800,000 people were captured for theft. The following year, The BBC reported that shoplifting had cost UK stores £4.4bn in less than a year. It appears that, thefts add around £180 to the regular family’s yearly shopping bill. Security employees need to be more cautious than ever, but without imposing their presence on (and thus dispiriting) innocuous shoppers.

A consistent 2 way radio system is the good way to accomplish this. Using two way radios, security personnel can monitor a potential circumstance silently and unobtrusively, questioning (if need be, apprehending) the suspect without creating too much of an fuss.

But those are not the only reasons that 2 way radios are essential to a retail environment. Workers and shoppers need to become protected against possibly volatile conditions as well. We’ve all observed a seemingly mundane state of affairs grow uncontrolled for one reason or another and it’s down to that store’s management to see that these incidents are restricted and diffused in a resonable and professional way.

Obviously, we also need to think about the larger retail environments like shopping malls and huge centres of trade. Across areas as big and sprawling as these can be, security, safety and shopper comfort are all crucial considerations that turn out to be that much harder to observe and manage. On that range, every concern becomes better. In these positions, two way radios need to be dependable, able to operate over long areas and run using a comparatively long battery life.

2 way radios are perfect for this task at hand, enabling management to supervise multifaceted operations and staff to perform their duties in a secure and respectful operational environment. Without two way radios, a Saturday afternoon’s shopping would be a far less interesting prospect…
